For the cost of one cup of coffee per month Gabriola could have a fully funded bus.
On Saturday, February 13th be sure to vote YES to create a permanent bus service for our community. Polls are open from 8 am to 8 pm at the school, with advance polls on the 3rd & 10th (also at the school).
All Gabriola and Mudge residents can vote – including renters.
The question on the ballot will read as follows:
“Are you in favour of the Regional District of Nanaimo adopting By- law 1734 to provide for … a system of public transit in Electoral Area ‘B’; and annually requisitioning up to a maximum of the greater of $250,000 or $0.25 per $1,000 of net taxable value of land and improvements to pay for the service?”
In fact GERTIE is only asking for $136,000, and the tax rate per property will actually be more like $0.125 per $1000. For a typical Gabriola property that will amount to $38 per year or $3.13 per month – about the cost of one cup of coffee per month.
