Understanding GERTIE’s schedules

We know that GERTIE’s schedule is not always easy to follow. There are three different ways of presenting the information: a full detailed schedule; a simplified schedule showing each route separately; an animated schedule allowing you to the follow the bus in its journey.

GERTIE has been accepted into the Google Maps Transit program ( You simply enter departure and arrival addresses and click on the transit icon. It will tell you when the next bus is coming. Plan ahead: specify a different day and time by clicking on the “Leave Now” button. Try it out here.

Want to know when Gertie will arrive at your location? Try the Where’s Gertie? app. It works on your computer, tablet or smart phone. Remember: the app only shows the bus when it is in operation.

This is a flag down service so just find a safe spot to stand on the side of the road and wait for the bus.  Be sure to carry a flashlight for flagging down the bus if it is dark.

I prefer the movable bus on the map,,,it just makes way more sense to me. The interactive map should be combined with a schedule of which routes run on which days. I think this would work much better for tourists, too, who may not be familiar with the names of the roads on the island.

I like the read across timetable the best. I can find my stop easily and see when the bus comes by. It is also in line with what other transit systems use for their timetables and is what myself and others are already familiar with. A few minor tweaks and the current gertie schedule would be much easier to read. Here’s an idea: make the timetable in different formats and people can choose the formart they prefer… Just an idea

Is Gertie running the week of Sept 8 -12? I’m commuting from Silva Bay am on the 7:40 ferry and coming back on the 3:50, each day that week. Thanks

Where do I find Saturday schedule?

  5. John Beatty says:

“Movable Maps” for Gertie’s morning “commuter” runs (ie A1, B1, A2 and B2) that reflect the January 2016 schedule changes are up. You may access them as usual from Gertie’s Routes and Schedules page, or by pointing your browser directly at “”. Movable maps for the remaining shifts will follow in the next few days.

What does R mean in the read-across schedule please?

    • gabcombus_admin says:

The R means by request only. For pick up, call or text (250) 668-6809. For drop off ask your driver.
Thanks for noticing – looks like we need to add this message to the website

Does Gertie run on Thanksgiving MONDAY OCT 10th?

  8. I’m not sure if I’m missing this, but I can’t seem to find the key to these symbols on the read down schedule or anywhere else. I’m trying to make a connection between 2 runs so it’s vital that I know what this means.

What does * mean in the read down schedule Silva Bay Express – 7:18 and 8:18
    Harrison and village connector 8:18?

What does ‘the cross symbol’ mean in the read down schedule Silva Bay Express – Hess 8:10

    • gabcombus_admin says:

      Hi Michelle,the symbols mean:
*At 7:18 and 8:18 AM the village stop is at the RCMP station at South & Dirksen †School days only

  9. Cynthia says:

I’m very confused … does the bus run the route every hour on the week day? every two hours? or only 1 trip a day? And which direction does it travel when it leaves the village??
