Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet.

Celebrate and learn about our marine environment by spending an active, educational afternoon at Descanso Bay Regional Park on Gabriola Island, Sunday June 5. This is the eighth annual Oceans Day held in the park featuring interactive sea life displays, marine information booths, a diving demo, a children’s afternoon outdoor program with games, crafts, story telling and face painting. Bring a picnic and enjoy some time at the beach with friends and family. Talk to marine biologists about their work and peer through microscopes at the wonders of sea life.

Make it a complete outdoor adventure by walking, cycling or taking the Gabriola community bus (GERTIE) to the park. GERTIE will be free of charge on Oceans Day. Visitors from Nanaimo can take the 11:55 am ferry to Gabriola, hop on the bus for a 3 minute ride to the park and return by bus to the 3:05 pm ferry back to Nanaimo. Gabriolans can flag down the bus on the North Road/South Road loop or park and ride. Free parking spaces are available at the South end Community Hall and at the Agi Hall lower parking lot.

Oceans Day is sponsored by the Regional District of Nanaimo, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Village Food Market, Coastal Community Credit Union.
